LEGAL ADVOCACY

  • The Transgender Law Center is a trans-led national organization that seeks to protect the rights of trans and gender nonconforming people through legal advocacy, policy advocacy, education, and movement building. They also maintain a legal information helpdesk to guide people through common legal challenges.

LAMBDA Legal Defense and Education Fund: https://lambdalegal.org/

  • LAMBDA works for LGBTQ+ rights through legal case work and policy advocacy.

ACLU: https://www.aclu.org/

  • The ACLU also works primarily through legal case work and policy advocacy. They also frequently publish resources that help individuals to understand the legal landscape and changes to federal policy.

GENERAL SUPPORT AND ADVOCACY

PFLAG National:
 https://pflag.org/

  • PFLAG is a national organization dedicated to supporting LGBTQ+ people. They have hundreds of chapters across the country and provide peer-to-peer support, online outreach and virtual meetings, and participate in policy advocacy. 

Advocates for Trans Equality: https://transequality.org/

  • Advocates for Trans Equality has programs including litigation, policy advocacy at the federal and state levels, and election advocacy. They also work to educate trans people about their legal rights and engage voters. 

Human Rights Campaign: https://www.hrc.org/

  • The Human Rights Campaign advocates for LGBTQ+ people across the country through voter mobilization and policy advocacy. They also provide a range of resources such as the Municipal Equality Index, which provides information on how inclusive particular cities and towns are.

YOUTH FOCUSED

The Trevor Project: https://www.thetrevorproject.org/

  • The Trevor Project is a suicide prevention and crisis intervention program for LGBTQ+ youth. They have trained crisis counselors available to answer calls 24/7 as well as peer support programs. They are also involved in research studies and advocacy initiatives. 

GSA Network: https://gsanetwork.org/

  • The GSA Network is a national organization that brings together different student-run groups that serve LGBTQ+ youth. The goal of the GSA Network is to empower students, connect student leaders across the country, and advocate for policies that protect LGBTQ+ youth. 

GLSEN: https://www.glsen.org/

  • GLSEN fights for LGBTQ+ youth in schools across the country. GLSEN is a national network of students, teachers, and families, that works to end bullying and cultivate supportive environments. They host teacher trainings, support local GSAs, advocate for inclusive curriculums, and take part in policy advocacy.
